Life Lesson from Leighann - A History and Lesson #34

Hi Internet World!

I am excited to join the world of blogging, though I doubt I will be very pro-writing until more time opens up in my life. Currently I am studying for the CPA Exam. For non-accountant folks, this exam is incredibly difficult and demands a lot of time and attention.

So, now you know I am an accountant. Which brings me to the history of my "Life Lessons with Leighann". At the beginning of this past tax season (January 2013), I was asked to mentor a new intern at my firm. I find humor to be very conducive to helping people feel relaxed, and I remember all too well my first days at the firm while I was finishing up my degree. I'm sure one day I'll go more in-depth on this experience, but for now I'll just say that I started saying, "Life Lesson from Leighann #XX" before something like, "it is important to take notes. After all, the dullest pencil is sharper than the sharpest mind". (That little quip is from my father, and I heard it often growing up). I'd say these "Life Lessons" with a little knowing nod of the head, imitating the look my great-grandmother, Gram, would give me when she wanted to make a point.

I found this would make my mentee laugh, especially when it was something absolutely ridiculous and pretty soon others at my accounting firm were hearing about my "Life Lessons". Someone mentioned I should start a blog (I'm sure the comment was on the facetious side), but I figured, "Why not?"

So here I am, grabbing the blogspot title even though I am super busy with my studying. Who knows what the future will hold with this idea.

And so, my first "Life Lesson" post:

Life Lesson from Leighann #34: Support Etsy Artists

I love Etsy. In fact, I'm a little addicted to it. In fact, I try to avoid it so we can pay off our credit card every month.

If I ever struck the lottery, I would purchase many a thing from Etsy like this ridiculously amazing coffee table you can see here: Amazing Railroad Cart Coffee Table

However, until that day, I will satiate my desire for handmade amazingness by purchasing little things like the beautiful CPA Framed Stamp from RedBeansnRice which I give to my friends when they pass the Exam. You can visit their Etsy shop here, and I think their stamp frames are the most perfectly done, beautiful and precise gift.

Or the ASL - "I Love You" pillowstration from JaneIsa's shop. My husband's pillow is grey with teal piping and teal thread.

I love all the customizable gifts, both gifts for those I love and for myself. After a year of owning my purse from hopkinswhitney's Etsy shop, I still get compliments on it at least once a week (it is similar to the one in the link, though it was custom ordered and came with a green ribbons and green lining). Eventually, I'll post pictures of all these amazing finds, but just know that for now I only go to Etsy when I know I can afford a little sumthin'-sumthin'.

So, Life Lesson from Leighann #34: Support Etsy Artists... but not until you break the bank!
